Description:The Redbone Coonhound dogs were developed in Georgia in the 19th century from
foxhounds and bloodhounds. They were carefully selected to be faster and have keener senses of
smell than other coonhounds. They are greatly valued by hunters and farmers and it was only
recently that they were recognized by the two major kennel clubs of the United States. They are
virtually unknown outside the US. There are also known as simply Reds. Check out the

Temperament:The Redbone Coonhound is happy, even-tempered and very good with children. It
can be surprisingly affectionate and has a pleasant-sounding bark. They will adapt to family life
is raised indoors from a puppy. Redbones loves being with people. Be careful with cats and other non-canine pets. If raised with
a kitten from puppyhood they may be okay but some Redbone Coonhounds try to hunt cats down like
raccoons.
Height: 21-27 inches
Weight: 50-70 pounds
Colors: Redbones are the only solid red coonhound.
Coat: The Redbone has a short, smooth, shiny coat. They are light shedder and require only
occassional brushing.
Life Expectancy: About 11-12 years
